The neon tones are invading all the clothes (including suits)
When we affirm that the trends are cyclical we find ourselves in a mistake. Fashion over time has created thousands of trends that, perhaps, recur frequently – some more notorious than others – but, undoubtedly, none triumphs in the same way. Then, the trends could be understood much better as a large wavy line, with ridges and valleys, where graphically we can compare these movements of intensity in the return of fashion directions.

One of the most popular is the neon trend, which had its main boom in the eighties. These tones so explosive, vibrant and carefree stained all the garments of that decade; triumphing in sportswear. Phenomenon that has remained in that category since just over 30 years.

Pantone, just a couple of days ago, revealed the “Color of the Year” for 2019. His proposal has been the “Living Coral”: a nuance that borders between the orange and pink with a touch of fluorescence and that will permeate in all possible creative areas. For their part, the most important international firms opted for the magnetism of the neon range to present garments bathed in that optical power that is identical to the classic color palette.

Versace in its collection SS19 presented total looks in green and neon pink, using the suit as the maximum piece to carry this trend. The Italian firm MSGM, from the designer Massimo Giorgetti, paid tribute to the sportswear of the young people of the 90s with clothes of coastal spirit, all soaked in fluorescent tones and elements that make reference to the neon signs of the big cities of the time. In Paris, Virgil Abloh, in his first fashion show as Creative Director of the men’s section of Louis Vuitton, offered a space-inspired collection: nebula prints, stars, “astronautic” air pieces, metallic and neon shades served to create a futuristic atmosphere.

Although the range of neon shades is wide, the most prominent are yellow, pink, orange and, of course, fluorescent green. The latter has already been proclaimed as the first trend tone of the year, even ahead of the predictions that pointed to its triumph in early spring. The ideal option to use neon for the office is Versace; Of course, with some small adjustments that will be necessary to make.
