That new wave of style called -and mostly known- as preppy spread throughout North America for the 60s and its influence permeated the philosophy of designers like Ralph Lauren, who founded his brand exactly, 50 years ago under these rules.

This condition, which, as a consequence of the so relaxed dress codes, we currently call “classic style“, was actually proposed as an alternative of sports and comfortable for elite students: intellectuals, well-off and representing family values . The harmony in the color palette, as well as the basic garments of this style have made it last and be almost an emblem of autumn: cardigans, chinos, wool jackets, navy blue blazers with some insignia, bow-ties, ties navy stripes, moccasins and the iconic harrington jacket are part of the US college legacy. All are garments, easy to match with each other, have never lost their validity and are always a good option for the change of season. Although, for the summer, they also mark their power in straight shorts, suede boat shoes, polo shirts and light sweaters in pastels.

Although the strict and neat concept of the original concept has become more and more informal, adaptation is increasingly relevant as we continue to learn to use it in a relaxed manner.
