Jorge Ríos “dandy reloaded” style

Some years ago the original video of Jimmy Kimmel’s show jumped to stardom on social media, In which a reporter asked to New York Fashion Week attendees if they had liked the collection of an invented designer. The point of the video was to show how there are people in the fashion industry who would say anything just to be the center of attention for a few minutes.

In Mexico, this video (available here) was especially popular due to the appearance of Jorge Ríos, PR of Taittinger, Raquel Orozco and the luxury division of Timex watches (like Salvatore Ferragamo, Versace y Hugo Boss). The sign of someone’s maturity is to learn to laugh at themselves, and Jorge not only enjoys that video, he turned it into a lifestyle, using the phrase he gave as an answer “for me never is enough”, as a life motto.

“I’ve always been working, since I can remember to get some extra cash, but the first real job, with a contract, social security and everything, was curiously as a salesperson of men’s footwear in the recently inaugurated Palacio de Hierro in Polanco, in 1997. “From there, her career in fashion continued until becoming a columnist and PR, what he currently does, traveling around the world wearing looks that he describes as “a mix of everything”,also shared through his social media.

“Some years ago, leaving the Ungaro show in Paris, I stumbled – not on purpose – with Suzy Menkes when she still writing for the international edition of the Herald Tribune, and she told me ‘Could you pay attention where you are going , you dandy faced young man!?’ Maybe there is where my Dandy Reloades style comes from. “

The biggest challenge in his professional life

“Digital era is something that shakes me every day,I try to adapt, try out and understand how things handled. As a PR I grew up learning in a traditional method, where the absolute owners of the information were those big firms, with big careers, experience, recognitions, awards and diplomas,to which you had to talk very politely and to earn their trust little by little, by being on time, professional, respectful, in a close relationship but without trespassing the thin line of trust. Today everything has changed, I find it very hard to process that a 18-year-old without any experience can have the same relevance and professional respect (to give it a name) than someone who has been more than 25 or 40 years in the industry, with the only difference that all its power lies in a cell phone and the often “raw” way in how it transmits information in their social media and to understand that their power lies precisely in that; in the so-called “personal and casual” way to communicate and that makes it have millions of followers taking the rightful place of the more experienced. “

    His favorite brands

“I cant be caged into one single favorite brand. There are many that drives me crazy but are simply unaffordable, there are no months without interests, no store card, not any way to buy them on the cheap. Angelo Galasso, Dries Van Noten, Thom Browne, Dsquared2, Alexander McQueen, Versace, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, the new style at Salvatore Ferragamo, Dior, Tom Ford that makes you look good no matter what, period. More down to earth, Hugo Boss, Suitsupply, the new big changes at Tommy Hilfiger’s collections. From Mexican designers I like The Pack by Patricio Campillo that has a very cool vibe and recognizable style, or the few pieces for men designed by Kris Goyri and that I own, that whenever I wear them someone asks me where did I got them, and also including the obvious and with great affection and joy for the low prices in H & M, TopMan and Uniqlo. “

    Your best fashion memory

“My favorite piece is a pure wool frac that I bought in an auction, together with a lot of pieces from the beginning of the 19th century, conserved in perfect condition, that luckily is exactly my size.Going trough the information from the auction catalog, it turned out that it was a suit made and bought fromthe first Palacio de Hierro in Downtown (with original tags) shortly before the fire that ended that building. It belonged to a member of the cabinet of former President Don Porfirio Díaz. I have special appreciation for it apart from being a treasure on its own ,its perfect state of preservation and knowing who was the owner and what it had been used for, I also wore it the opening of El Palacio de Hierro in Polanco last year, It came back home after 100 years! and then I wore it at the New Year’s party at the Imperial Palace in Vienna dancing with my mom, in which the dress code was strictly White Tie. “
