Eduardo Granja and the phenomenon of the well dressed stylists
The stylist Eduardo Granja has one of the most enviable closets in Mexico, but unlike many other men who love fashion, he loves vintage pieces, shirts and comfortable clothes.“I do not like tucking in my shirts, I do not like ties, I cant wear uncomfortable shoes and I do not wear color that makes me feel uncomfortable.”This has created one of the most specific styles among the people of the industry, with lots of jewelry and fully inspired by the musicians of the seventies like Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Michael Jackson. He loves everything by Hedi Slimane(“the first fashion piece I ever invested in were this Dior Homme sneakers by Hedi Slimane, and I love everything about Saint Laurent”).
One of the most common questions asked to a stylist is how much from his personal style is transmitted to their clients.
“The first thing is that a stylist has to excel, is at creating images, once that is good, the work is done. It is not required to be well dressed, this phenomenon that people who work in fashion have amazing looks all the time is very recent. Before if a stylist had good or bad style it did not matter. Blogs didn’t existed, they were not constantly aware of how people perceive them, they worried about creating images that could become iconic. Nowadays the word stylist applies to everything. “
“I believe that personal style should not be passed on to clients, because the fun part is is to make their own personal style. What you can transmit is the taste, the way you work, but not your personal style. The same applies when you are working with brands, magazines or other productions. “
As for the way other men dress, this is what Eduardo has to say:
- He admires security of men who dare to wear whatever and “make it their own” (they use it in a unique way and feel comfortable with).
- The worst that a man can use is a suit that is too big for him.
- He likes men to wear a lot of jewelry, but “I do not think I’m the one to say when it is too much, because I use a lot.”
- He thinks it’s cool for men to wear women’s clothes, but if they fit it into a masculine way. “My shoulders are very narrow so i can get away with some things , but I don’t think anyone can pull this off.”
- Colors are not his forte. “Sometimes I wear some colored things , but I do not feel like myself.”
